Reward Yourself – You Deserve It 7

Goal setting is a vital part of business planning. I’m always setting goals for myself which is a good thing. However, I only set them in my head which is NOT such a good thing. Putting them down on paper or online makes you more accountable for achieving them and best of all you can check them off and see the progress you have made. I’m the kind of person who likes to have anything I’m keeping track of to look really nice – it makes me want to revisit it on a regular basis.

The image here is of a really cute Rotating Goal List that I found on Pinterest. The original was created by Rachel of Cornflower Blue Studio.

Reaching our goals makes us feel good and keeps us motivated. It’s important to reward ourselves when we achieve the things we have set our minds to. Sometimes we need more than a pat on the back and a special reward is deserved. It doesn’t have to be an expensive reward. In fact, some rewards don’t cost anything at all like a long, relaxing soak in the bathtub scented with our favorite bubbles/oils/soaps.

The reward can be appropriate considering how lofty the goal was and how much meeting it has impacted your business. The bigger the goal, the bigger your reward should be. However, every goal doesn’t have to be a huge accomplishment. Smaller goals keep us motivated until we can reach more significant milestones.

Deciding ahead of time what your reward will be can give you an extra incentive. Post your goals and maybe even pictures of your rewards where you can easily see them and they will serve to remind you of what you can look forward to if you meet your goal.

When you reach your larger goals, your reward should be a big deal. Think of a big-ticket item that you have wanted for a long time – a vacation, the latest technical gadget or maybe even a car! Just make sure that the reward is something realistic that you’ll be able to afford. Otherwise, you’ll be disappointed and that does nothing to motivate or boost morale.

So reach for the stars and once you get there, be ready to do more than pat yourself on the back. Celebrate, then be ready to aim even higher next time!
